Dr.Kevin Preston

Doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine, herbalist and acupuncturist, Dr. Preston is an initiator of change who’s spent years creating impact and heart-driven retreats and events like The New Human.

There are moments when the next step isn’t outward, but inward.

A softening into rhythm, into the body, and what is most essential.

The Heart of Water is a seven-night immersive journey in Bali for those who have already been walking a path of awareness, healing, growth or service. They sense that something deeper is now asking to emerge.

This is not a typical Bali wellness retreat.

It is a deeply held, ceremonial and land-connected experience woven through water, fire, breath, sound, movement, stillness and presence.

Rooted in the ancient water culture of Bali and held within a small, intimate circle, we will enter experiences designed to bring us into greater contact with the intelligence of our bodies, the elemental world, and the deeper expression of who we are here to be.

There will be sacred water ceremonies. Volcanic summits. Ancient places. Balinese healers. Group acupuncture. Breathwork. Guided journeys and meditations. Energetic practices. Beautiful food. Massage. Jungle. Ocean. Adventure. Laughter. Stillness.

But perhaps most importantly, there will be space. This is a component that is seemingly less and less available unless it is consciously chosen in our busy world. Making space for the integration of so much of life lived. Giving it a place to land inside you. This is where deep listening happens.

FOR THOSE WHO HOLD OTHERS

Many of those who will feel called to The Heart of Water are accustomed to being the ones who hold space for others.

Healers. Coaches. Practitioners. Creatives. Guides. Leaders. Those devoted to their own evolution and to being of service in the world.

There comes a point when even those who hold others need to be deeply held themselves.

There are places within us that only become available when we feel safe enough to soften.

When the nervous system can settle and trust, then things start coming to us rather than the need to chase life. Remarkable things happen when we move with slowness and intention.

This is an invitation to be held at that level.

A RETURN TO THE ELEMENTAL SELF

At the foundation of Chinese medicine is a simple understanding: health emerges through relationship, rhythm and flow.

When Qi moves freely, there is harmony.

When the inner environment becomes more coherent, something changes. Not only physically, but emotionally, mentally and spiritually.

For much of my life and work, I have been exploring the places where these worlds meet.

The Heart of Water is an opportunity to bring them together.

Throughout our time in Bali, I will guide practices and experiences designed to work with the inner environment of the body, supporting greater flow, coherence and communication throughout the whole system.

We will work with breath. Meditation and guided journeys. Group acupuncture. Energetic practices. Movement and stillness. Teaching the intelligence of the organ systems. And especially, water. We are all holding crystalline ancient memories through water. Our experiences together will be embodied ones that can travel home inside you.

THE LAND THAT WILL HOLD US

For our first five nights, we will gather at an extraordinary private retreat sanctuary in the greater Ubud region.

This is not simply accommodation. The land is part of the retreat.

Our home sits amongst rice fields and lush tropical vegetation, overlooking a river gorge and a landscape woven with places of gathering, practice, ceremony and rest.

There are ancient structures within the wider landscape, alongside flowing water and places where Balinese spiritual traditions remain very much alive.

We will wake slowly here. Practice overlooking the land. Eat beautiful meals together. Receive treatments. Enter ceremony. Rest. Swim. Gather.

Allowing ourselves to become intimately acquainted with the rhythm of the place.

From there we move through a state change to another location to finish off with two beautiful nights for variety, freshness and vibrancy. Our last day together will be filled with fun, movement, and a vortex of joy.

WATER REMEMBERS

Bali has a relationship with water that reaches far beyond utility.

Water is revered. Blessed. Prayed with. Offered to. Gathered around.

It moves through temples, rivers, springs, rice fields and daily life.Throughout The Heart of Water, we will enter into that relationship with reverence.

Water will become both an element we encounter in the landscape and a doorway through which we explore our own inner landscape. The waters outside, and the waters within.

There are experiences that cannot be understood entirely through the mind.

Sometimes we need to stand in the river. Enter the ocean.
Feel the land beneath our feet. Breathe differently. Be touched by a place. I’ve always believed some places have medicine for us in land codes. Specific energy that can help us ground, feel, and expand all at the same time.

We’re going to allow the body to receive information that words could never adequately communicate.

Land itself can become the teaching.

WHERE WATER MEETS FIRE

There is another element woven deeply into this journey.

Fire.

Bali is a volcanic island, shaped by forces that have been moving beneath the surface for millennia. There is something about volcanic landscapes that continues to call me.

I have found myself leading retreats in these places—from Iceland to Madeira—and now that thread brings us east, to Bali. There is an extraordinary relationship between these two forces.

Water and fire. Yin and Yang. Softness and potency. Surrender and activation.
Flow and transformation. Perhaps some layers here for each of us in our way.

We will spend time in Bali’s volcanic landscape, including an early-morning ascent of Mount Batur, allowing the physical journey itself to become part of the inner one.

Water remembers. Fire awakens.

A BALI FEW PEOPLE GET TO EXPERIENCE

One of the pieces I am most excited about is the opportunity to share a Bali that exists beyond the usual retreat and tourism circuit.

Over time, I have developed meaningful relationships with people on the island who are helping us enter places and experiences we might never discover otherwise.

Local healers, priests, ceremonial spaces. Corners of Bali that aren’t necessarily found through a search engine or itinerary.

We aren’t coming to consume Bali. We are going to be in relationship with it.

To listen, learn, offer, and receive. To meet the people, traditions and land with humility and respect.

Some of these experiences will remain intentionally fluid as we move toward April, allowing our local relationships and what is happening on the ground to inform exactly where we go.

That is part of the beauty of this experience.

WHAT WE'LL JOURNEY THROUGH

Rather than building a retreat around a packed itinerary, The Heart of Water will move more like water itself.

There will be rhythm, movement and adventure, and spaciousness.

Across our eight days together, the experience is expected to include sacred Balinese water ceremony; encounters with local priests and healers; intimate experiences made possible through trusted local relationships; group acupuncture and energetic work; breathwork, meditation and guided inner journeys; beautiful massages and bodywork; time amongst jungle, rice fields and sacred landscapes; the sunrise ascent of Mount Batur; nourishing meals shared together; plenty of integration, rest and unstructured space. There will be experiences we are intentionally not revealing yet.

Some things are better discovered when you are there.

Woven through all of it will be the work we do together, which begins before the retreat online in two attunement calls once the group is set. We gather again following the retreat online to integrate even more deeply.

THE RETURN

The journey does not end when we leave the island. I often see the completion of epic journeys as beginnings with new doorways that have opened.

My hope is not simply that you return home having experienced an extraordinary eight days in Bali, but that you return more fully inside yourself.

More connected to your own inner intelligence, grounded, expanded, and embodied to live a life of presence. Perhaps a few newly activated gifts as well 😉

The elemental self.

For that reason, this is not an instant-book retreat.

Participation begins with an application.

Applications will be personally reviewed, and in some cases we may connect for a short conversation before extending an invitation.

It’s about creating the right field. A group of people who are ready to enter fully, contribute authentically and meet one another with openness, curiosity and respect.

There might be simply something in your body that recognizes this.

Because part of The Heart of Water is entering a journey that cannot be completely planned, predicted or understood beforehand.
